Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 provides 50 percent charge in 5 minutes

Qualcomm’s latest fast charging standard is called Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 and it puts itself right at the top amongst similar technologies.

According to Qualcomm, it will enable more than 100W of charging power and bring the ability to charge devices from 0 up to 50 percent in five minutes(!)

It will also charge devices up to 10°C (50°F) cooler and up to 70% more efficiently compared to previous solutions.

Rugged Computers with fast charging

So, when can we expect this technology in rugged computers?

In their press release, Qualcomm states the following:

Quick Charge 5 is currently sampling with customers and is expected to appear in commercial devices in Q3 2020. Quick Charge 5 is supported on Snapdragon 865, 865 Plus, and future premium- and high-tier Snapdragon mobile platforms.

This means that we’ll probably have to be a bit patient to see this technology inside rugged devices. On the other hand, there are already rugged computers equipped with Qualcomm’s previous Quick Charge solutions.
