MilDef supports Norwegian CV90 midlife upgrade with Rugged IT equipment

MilDef has announced a new order to deliver 900 ruggedized computers to the Norwegian Defense Materiel Agency (FMA). The order is a crucial part of the midlife upgrade to Norway’s fleet of CV90 combat vehicles. This contract underscores the growing importance of technology upgrades in extending the operational lifespan of military vehicles.

The order is part of a broader framework agreement between MilDef and the Norwegian FMA that has been in place since 2020. The collaboration focuses on providing military IT solutions to support the modernization of Norway’s defense systems. MilDef’s custom-made rugged computers will replace the aging systems currently used in the CV90s, which BAE Systems originally built.

Rugged IT – The backbone of defense modernization

The CV90 is a highly versatile combat vehicle that has served in various militaries across Europe for several decades. However, like all military platforms, the CV90 requires periodic technological upgrades to stay relevant in modern combat environments. MilDef’s ruggedized computers are at the heart of these upgrades, offering increased processing power, enhanced durability, and advanced digital capabilities to meet the demands of the modern battlefield.

Daniel Ljunggren, CEO of MilDef Group, emphasized the significance of this order:

“This is our single largest order of computers to the Norwegian Armed Forces and contributes to a significant modernization of the existing fleet of CV90. An example of how the platforms are constantly evolving with more powerful IT infrastructure and digitalization. We are proud to deliver the highest standards of quality and innovation to support the agency’s important mission.”

The importance of midlife upgrade compatibility

One of the key aspects of military platform sustainability is ensuring that systems can be upgraded over time. This is where midlife upgrade compatibility comes into play. Military vehicles like the CV90 are designed to have long service lives, often spanning several decades. During this time, technology advances rapidly, making it essential for vehicles to undergo midlife upgrades. This means integrating new systems without requiring a complete platform redesign.

MilDef’s ability to provide IT solutions that are compatible with existing military systems ensures that platforms like the CV90 can adapt to modern challenges. It vastly extends the vehicle’s lifespan, saving costs and reducing the need for entirely new fleets. This adaptability is crucial in a defense sector where budget constraints and technological advancements are constant factors.

A future-proof solution for defense

As Norway’s CV90 fleet undergoes this significant midlife upgrade, MilDef’s rugged IT solutions will play a critical role in ensuring that these combat vehicles remain effective and mission-ready. The ability to integrate cutting-edge technology into existing platforms is key to maintaining military readiness in an increasingly digital world. MilDef’s involvement in this project is a clear example of how technology providers are essential partners in the defense sector’s ongoing modernization efforts.
