Ambient Mode is made as a proactive version of Google Assistant turning the Android device into a smart home device while charging.
The user can instantly get useful information on the lock screen such as notifications, calendar info, weather, and smart home controls.
According to Google, the feature will start to roll out in early December to Sony Xperia, Nokia, Transsion and Xiaomi devices and selected Lenovo tablets running Android 8.1 or newer.
However, Ambient Mode isn’t a standalone experience since it’s deeply integrated into Android, meaning it will probably be available on more Android devices in the near future as well.
